Notes: All sound clips are in RealAudio® format, which means you have to
have the
appropriate player software to hear them. If you lack such player, please
download it by clicking on the image at the
bottom of this page.
RealAudio allows "streaming" of audio data in real time eliminating the download
wait.
However, your Internet connection speed impacts directly on the resulting sound
quality.
Thus, each "reel" in turn comes in three versions
designed to fit most common Internet connection rates as follows:
- "14.4" is designed for modems with speeds ranging from 14.4 to 28.8 kbps.
The sound quality is not quite adequate for music, but enough
to give a general overview of the program presented.
Use with the modems described above and/or noisy phone lines.
- "28.8" is for 28.8 kbps and faster modems on regular phone lines. The sound
quality reminds of AM radio,
and thus is acceptable for music.
This format has become very popular on the Internet for quick music previews
geared towards general Internet audiences.
- "ISDN" is for special high-speed ISDN phone lines and hardwired networks
(like those in the academia, government, and some private corporations
in the United States). It may also suit those with a
56K connection achieving stable throughput of no less than 45 kbps. The sound
quality is closer to FM radio, with good-quality stereophony.
Use this format if your Internet connection satisfies the conditions above.
If you experience frequent noise bursts or even stoppage while playing one of
these files,
return to this page and choose the lower quality version of the same file.
